MAMMA EMMA

Who is Mamma Emma ?

Emma was the mother of one of the two founders of Master, the company that produces mamma emma gnocchi.

Along with her husband, Mario, they escaped Italy after WWII and went to Venezuela in search for a better future for their family. There, Mario worked as a merchant, buying, and selling house-cleaning supplies. When they came back to Italy in the late 1950s Mario did the same job, but this time he was buying and selling sweets and dry goods like pasta, oil and canned foods.

After many years (1980s), Mario and his son Adriano decided to become manufacturers, and they opened a little deli production that many years later evolved in Master, the company that today produces mamma emma gnocchi.

In the meantime, Emma, like many Italian mothers/grandmothers in the 60s-70s-80s spent all her life taking care of the family and being a housekeeper.

Among many duties, she was also encharged of feeding everyone that came to the house daily: husband, sons, in-laws, nephews and family friends. Every day eating at Emma’s house was a true pleasure!  As the years went by, she perfected her recipes, which became legendary among family and friends. She was well renowned for her lasagna, polpette (meatballs), Bolognese sauce and, of course, gnocchi. Once her son Adriano decided to launch a new gnocchi brand in 2010, the developing of the name “mamma emma” came along very easily for the following reasons:

  • It allowed him to homage his mother (who passed away at 98 in 2022)
  • “mamma emma” is a very evocative Italian name, that can be easily understood around the world.
  • “mamma” means mother, and mamma emma gnocchi are made with the same love and care that a mother would use to prepare a meal for its family.
  • “mamma emma” gnocchi are the most authentic gnocchi one can find at retail level worldwide, and they are made exactly like Emma would do at home
